Tematem artykułu jest retoryka i różnorakie funkcje milczenia jako instrumentu pamiętania i zapominania w powieści Domnicy Radulescu pod tytułem Kraina czerwonych azalii, która jest typowym przykładem prozy emigracyjnej. W powieści milczenie zapobiega przenoszeniu się pamięci traumy oraz wyraża niemożliwość jej przekazywania. Ponadto odgrywa ono kluczową rolę w formowaniu się nowej tożsamości postaci, opartej na zapomnieniu. Autorka analizuje również inne formy niewerbalnej/niewyartykułowanej pamięci, takie jak pamięć miejsca i pamięć zmysłowa, podkreślając ich wymiar społeczny i polityczny.
